The Tannahill Weavers sind für Schottland das, was Planxty oder die Bothy Band für Irland war - nur mit dem Unterschied, dass diese dienstälteste schottische Band seit über 30 Jahren immer noch auf Tournee geht, CDs aufnimmt, und nichts von ihrem Schwung und ihrem Charisma eingebüßt haben. Als eine der ersten Bands, die den schottischen Dudelsack im Folk-Kontext einsetzte, waren The Tannahill Weavers die Vorreiter und Gründungsväter für ein Stilmittel, was heutzutage für jeden Folk-Fan fast schon ein "Muss" ist, wenn man an die traditionelle Musik Schottlands denkt!

Neben den elektrisierenden Instrumentalsets, getragen vom druckvollen Zusammenspiel der Highland Pipes mit Querflöte, Geige, Gitarre und Bouzouki sind die "Tannies", wie ihre Fans sie zärtlich nennen, vor allem für ihren markanten, 4- oder 5-stimmigen Gesang bekannt.
